Ayurveda addresses the underlying imbalances that cause these diseases while promoting lifestyle changes. As a result, it helps to manage such chronic conditions effectively, contributing to long term wellbeing

Ayurveda follows the tag line “Prevention is better than cure”. Therefore, Ayurvedic treatments place a strong emphasis on preventive-care. Lifestyle practices such as regular detoxification, balanced diet, stress management techniques hold a significant place in Ayurveda. Along with addressing disease conditions, Ayurveda also focuses on supporting mental wellbeing. Therefore, its treatments incorporate practices such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, dietary recommendations to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. This in return contributes to a more balanced and peaceful mind.

9. Identifying Dosha in Ayurveda

Dosha in an individual’s body is accurately identified by observing and understanding various aspects of their body, mind and behaviour. Ayurveda believes that an individual’s body constitution is a unique combination of three dosha-Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Also it is believed that the constitution of each individual is unique and different from one another.

For instance, reflect on your physical characteristics ( body frame, skin texture, energy levels ); mental and emotional tendencies and daily habits and lifestyle preferences ( sleep patterns, digestion, response to stress )

Physical Characteristics

  • if you have a slender body frame and dry skin you belong to the Vata type
  • if you are medium built person and have a tendency towards warm skin tones you belong to the Pitta type

Mental and Emotional Tendencies

  • personalities who are often creative but can be prone to anxiety are considered to be Vata
  • individuals who are typically well determined but may experience irritability are categorized as Pitta
  • those who are typically calm but struggling with lethargy are identified as Kapha.

Daily habits and Lifestyle Preferences

  • if you are someone following irregular routines you belong to Vata Dosha
  • if you have a strong digestion but a quick temper you belong to the Pitta Dosha
  • if you follow a slow, steady lifestyle but have a tendency towards overeating you fall into Kapha Dosha

Accordingly if you do a careful evaluation of these characteristics, you can understand the type of Dosha that dominates your body constitution. This can guide you towards achieving a balanced life and overall wellbeing

10. Introduction to Panchakarma

Panchakarma, a key treatment in Ayurveda, is designed to detoxify the body and restore its natural balance. The word is a combination of two Sanskrit words : “Pancha” ( meaning five ) and “Karma” ( meaning actions ).

As the words suggest, Panchakarma comprises five therapeutic procedures. Those five procedures are :

  • vamana ( therapeutic vomiting )
  • virechana ( purgation )
  • basti ( medicated enema )
  • nasya ( nasal administration of herbal oils )
  • raktamokshana ( bloodletting )

All above – mentioned procedures focus on cleansing the body of collected toxins. Unwanted toxins in the body are known as ‘ama’ in Ayurveda. Accordingly ama or toxins are considered to be the root cause of many chronic diseases and health issues.

Panchakarma promotes long term health and well being as it comprises a variety of benefits:

  • Its ability to purify a body deeply targeting both physical and mental impurities
  • It is not just a detox program. It is a comprehensive therapy that rejuvenates the whole system
  • rather than treating specific symptoms, it addresses the root causes of illnesses
  • helps in balancing the body constitution ( dosha )
  • aids in rejuvenating body tissues

In Panchakarma, all the therapeutic procedures are tailored to match the individual’ s body constitution and health needs. Meaning, Panchakarma focuses on personalized approach to healing.

11. Herbal Medicine and Its Role in Ayurveda

Herbal medicine, extracted from natural plants and herbs, plays a central role in Ayurvedic treatment for its ability to promote healing and balance within the body. Each herb used in Ayurveda carries unique properties. A particular herb may be used for its detoxification properties, immunity boosting properties or for its mind soothing properties. Ayurveda believes that health issues are caused due to an imbalance of the doshas ( body energies )in the body. Therefore, herbs are carefully selected to restore this balance in the body.

Ayurveda does not use natural remedies only to treat symptoms of illnesses. Natural remedies are also used to eliminate the root cause of the particular illness as well. For example, turmeric, a key ingredient in Ayurveda, is commonly used for its anti inflammatory properties. Ashwagandha, on the other hand, is used to reduce stress and enhance vitality.

Herbs are often well combined to create specific formulas to target particular health concerns, thereby making treatments highly individualized. Herbal medicine, without any doubt, is valued for its effectiveness. Also its ability to work gently with the body, while promoting overall well being is another benefit of herbal medicine.

12. Diet and Nutrition in Ayurveda

Ayurveda pays significant attention to an individual’s diet and nutrition as it is important in maintaining health and preventing diseases. It is believed that food is not just nourishment, it is also medicine to the body. What you eat can directly influence your physical, mental and emotional well being. Accordingly Ayurveda promotes the idea that one should eat to match their body type or dosha in order to maintain balance and harmony within the body.

Diet and nutritional practices recommended by Ayurveda focus on the promotion of a balanced, healthy lifestyle that supports long term well being. Some dietary practices include :

  • including fresh, seasonal and natural foods in the diet
  • each meal must be prepared giving attention to all six tastes-sweet,
sour, salty, bitter, pungent, astringent to ensure a balanced intake that satisfies
    all the aspects of nutrition
  • eating mindfully
  • eating at regular times of the day
  • eating slowly in a calm environment is important as it promotes digestion
  • including spices like ginger, garlic, turmeric often in your meals

13. Ayurvedic Massage – A Must in Ayurveda

Ayurvedic massage, also known as Abhyanga, is a key component of Ayurveda. Apart from being a relaxation technique, this is a therapeutic full body massage that facilitates maintaining health and balance in the body.

The massage involves the application of warm, medicated oils on the whole body of the individual. The medicated oils are tailored to match the body constitution ( dosha ) of the individual. Also oils used in a massage vary depending on the required healing property. For instance, oil types used for reducing stress differs from the oil types used to improve blood circulation or from oil types used for body detoxification.

The benefits of a regular Ayurvedic massage can be listed as follows;

  • its ability to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes
  • it improves blood flow
  • helps in nourishing the skin
  • supports the removal of toxins from the body tissues
  • it strengthens the immune system
  • calms the nervous system, thereby promoting deep relaxation
  • helps in balancing the doshas of a body

14. Yoga and Meditation for Relaxation

Two vital components of Ayurveda are yoga and meditation as these are powerful tools for healing and maintaining balance in both mind and body.

Yoga

  • yoga postures are customized to match the individual’s dosha. This way it helps in balancing body energy and improving physical health
  • practising yoga helps in improving body flexibility, strength and blood circulation. This in return supports the body’s natural healing process

Meditation

  • focuses on calming the mind and reducing stress
  • a prominent relaxation practice used for achieving mental clarity and emotional balance
  • regular meditation supports in relaxing the mind, reducing anxiety and promoting
a sense of inner peace, which in return benefits in overall well being

Both components, together, are effective in addressing the root causes of imbalance and disease. It is not only about treating symptoms. These relaxation practices promote long term well being and harmony within the body.

15. A Word of Caution Before Booking Your Stay

Ayurvedic treatments require enough time and dedication to reach their effectiveness. Therefore, almost every treatment involves extended periods of rest and focus. Ayurveda is popular for its gradual, holistic approach to healing that works over time to bring the body back into balance.

Ayurvedic treatments demand a high level of self discipline when it comes to following prescribed routines and lifestyle changes. Such changes are crucial to bring effective results.

With that said Ayurvedic treatments will not be the best choice for individuals who find it difficult to stay in one place or who lack patience and dedication. If you are unable to commit yourself to a structured routine, we kindly recommend you reconsider your decision of booking an Ayurvedic treatment with Arabiers.

It is important to understand that successful results in Ayurveda, solely depend on your willingness to follow and entire process with patience and consistency.
