Overstay fine is the penalty you are fined when you stay in the UAE after your visa validity period. UAE visas, including visit visas, residence visa or any other type of visa, all have different validity periods, after which they become expired.
If for instance, you get a 30 days’ visit visa to the UAE, it means that you are supposed to stay for only 30 days in the UAE after your first entry. If you exceed the days you are supposed to stay even with one day, then you are considered to be overstaying your visa.
You will be fined for everyday that you overstay your UAE visa. It is therefore important to make early decision before your current visa expires to decide whether you will exit the country or continue staying there.
If you want to stay for more days apply for a visa extension or renew your visa before the current one expires so that you can avoid the visa fines.
If your UAE visa has reached its expiry date and you are still in the UAE, then you have overstayed your visa. most people in the UAE are non-Emirates, so it is very common to see people who have overstayed their visas.
When you realize that you have overstayed your UAE visa, you should know that you will be required to pay a fine. The fine is calculated every day you overstay so whether you want to extend your stay in the country or leave, you must pay the fine.
In this guide we will further breakdown for you how to proceed when you have overstayed your visa and you want to continue staying in the UAE and when you want to leave the country.
This is what to are supposed to do if you have overstayed your visa but you still want to extend your stay on a visit visa:
For you to you know exactly how much fine you should pay, you need to first know how to calculate the fine. The amount you pay depends on the days that you have overstayed in the UAE after your visa expiry date.
The UAE government removed the 10 days’ grace period for repaid visa holders which was granted after the visa expires. This means that fines start accumulating immediately the visa expires.
The ICP UAE has recently standardized the overstaying fines in the UAE to AED 50 per day. To know the amount of fine you are required to pay, calculate the number of days you have stayed in the country since the date your visa expired, and then multiply those days by 50.
For example, if you have overstayed in the UAE by 10 days, then your total fine will be 500 AED (10 x 50 =500).
There are several payment options that you can use to pay for visit visa overstay fines. Below is the process of visa fine payment and visa change:
If you are in the UAE on a residence visa or employment visa and it expires or gets cancelled, you are granted a grace period of 30 days. This grace period gives you time to decide whether to change the status of your visa and get another residence visa or leave the country.
You will not be charged any overstaying fines for staying in the country during these 30 days, but after that, you will start accumulating fines.
You can visit the Arabiers typing center or contact us to be assisted to extend your residence visa so that you may continue residing in the UAE.
You can also contact us if you have overstayed your visa but still want to continue staying in the UAE with a residence visa.
As we have mentioned, those with a cancelled or expired residence visa are allowed 30 days’ grace period in the UAE. After the 30 days you will be charged 50 AED for every day you continue staying in the UAE.
This is the new amount after the government standardized all the overstaying visa fines. If you stay for 45 days after your resident visa is expired or cancelled, the calculation for visa fine will be as follows:
45 days – 30 days (Grace Period) = 15 days
Therefore, fine will be 15 days’ x 50 AED = 750 AED
This is the process of paying visa overstay fines for residence visa:
If you choose to leave the UAE and you have overstayed your visa, you must first pay the overstaying fines before leaving the country. In addition to the fines, you also need to get an Exit Pass to allow you allow you to leave the country.
The Exit Pass costs around 250 to 300 AED and is also paid at the immigration counter at the airport. When leaving UAE, you will therefore pay the total amount of overstaying fine plus the Exit pass charges.
for instance, if you have overstayed the UAE for 5 days, you will be charged as follows:
Overstaying fine = 5 days’ x 50 AED which totals to 250 AED
PLUS
Exit Pass of 250 to 300 AED
After making the payments you will be cleared to board the flight and exit the country legally.
Before you check the overstay fee for different visas, you need to first know about the grace period. The UAE immigration has recently abolished the 10 days’ grace period that was issued to visit visa holders.
Visitors with a UAE visit visa should exit the country immediately their visa expires, or extend or renew their visas if they want to continue staying in the UAE. Failure to do so will attract visa fines and other consequences like absconding.
Those who have a UAE residence visa still enjoy the 30 days’ grace period after visa expiry.
Residents of the UAE and those with a visit visa can verify their overstay fine status online. You only need to use your Emirates ID to check the status online.
