Old Dubai

Without a doubt Dubai is a city built on futuristic principles. Just fifty years ago, however, Dubai was a fishing village with many wetlands and sea sand. Old Dubai grants tourists a glimpse into some of the oldest areas of Dubai.

Old Dubai is also about ancient buildings and older marketplaces from fifty years ago.

Sheikh Mohammed Center (SMCCU)

Another popular attraction among tourists is the SMCCU. This non-profit organization is a center that promotes Emirati culture, traditions, customs and religion. The center organizes a variety of activities for foreign visitors in order to engage tourists in Dubai’s UAE culture which is a blend of Arabian, Islamic and Persian cultures.

The activities include educational programmes for students, cultural events, and tours to various heritage sites. The Center also provides visitors an opportunity to indulge in a traditional Emirati meal.

Jumeirah Beach

Jumeirah beach located in Palm Jumeirah is a breathtaking beach with white sand and warm water, inviting you to sunbathe and / or swim in the turquoise blue sea. The shimmering Burj Al Arab in the distance serves as an impressive backdrop making Jumeirah Beach a very memorable and scenic location to click a few beautiful pictures.

Burj Al Arab

The famous Burj Al Arab is an iconic attraction and luxury hotel in Dubai. Known to be the tallest hotel in the world, the Burj Al Arab is located in Palm Jumeirah, the world’s largest human made island as well as a world landmark.

Dubai Fountain Show

The Dubai Fountain Show is a must see for any tourist in Dubai. The performing fountain puts on a dazzling show every 30 minutes in the evening hours where illuminated jets of water move rhythmically to a wide range of popular and well-known melodies. The Dubai Fountain is located on the Burj Lake in downtown Dubai.

Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa, located in the City of Gold, is an attraction that holds several world records. One record is for being the tallest building in the world. The building is also home to a variety of famous restaurants, the Dubai Mall, shops, and nine hotels including the prestigious Armani Hotel Dubai.

Dubai Frame

The Dubai Frame is a monument located in Zabeel Park. It is recognized as the largest frame in the world. This monument has 160 floors and has an observatory and a museum. It is popular among tourists especially for its observatory, which provides views of Old Dubai in the north, and parts in the south.

When to Visit Dubai ?

The sun shines boldly and brightly in Dubai practically every day of the year. Tourists throng to Dubai primarily in the winter months which fall from October to March. The temperature is milder at 14°C to 24°C (57° F to 75°F).

Tourists also visit Dubai during the hot summer months to benefit from off season discounts and perks. The summer months typically fall from June to August. The temperature during summer months can range from 33°C to 42°C, and days have up to 13 hours of sunlight. There is still much to do in Dubai even in the summer months. When visiting Dubai during the summer months, we advise our clients to be sure to wear sunscreen and light clothing that does not expose your skin to the sun’s harsh rays, and to carry enough water to keep hydrated at all times.

Dos and Don’ts When in Dubai

For the optimum enjoyment of your time in Dubai we have put together the following list for you to plan accordingly :

Dos

• Do wear comfortable and conservative clothing with no indecent exposure especially when visiting historical sites, monuments and public spaces. The UAE is a conservative culture and the Emiratis hold its customs and traditions in high esteem.
• Do book tickets in advance if you want to visit popular places like Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. Having advance bookings will minimize the time you spend in queues.
• Do use the Dubai metro which is a well-run public transportation system during rush hours.

Don’ts

• Do not beg in Dubai even as a joke. Begging is a punishable crime. Anyone who is caught begging will be fined 5000 AED.
• Do not drink in public places. This is prohibited in Dubai.
• Do not engage in any paid work or business activity either on a fulltime or part-time basis if you are on a tourist visa as doing so is prohibited. In order to work in Dubai, or in any other Emirate, you have to have a residence visa.
• Do not overstay beyond the time permitted on your tourist visa. Overstaying your visa will also cost you 50 AED for each day you overstay. Contact Arabiers to get a visa extension as soon as possible.

Things You Need to Know when in Dubai

Here are some essential things you need to know before visiting Dubai :

Official Currency

The official currency in Dubai is Dirhams (AED). Exchanging your currency into dirhams is not difficult. You can do so at the Dubai airport upon entry or you can exchange prior to boarding your flight at your port of embarkation.

You can use your credit and debit cards to make purchases especially at supermarkets and malls in Dubai. It is advisable, however, to have local currency on you when visiting souks and markets in Dubai so you may pay in cash especially if obtaining a bargain price.

Spoken Languages in Dubai

Dubai is a multilingual country. Although the majority’s language is Arabic you will find local people, especially sellers and shop-keepers, speaking and understanding English.
